My Bio

Dear Friends, Oakland Community College holds a special place in my story. As a proud OCC alumna, I know firsthand how a community college education can create opportunity and provide the foundation for a brighter future. That is why I am running for reelection to the Oakland Community College Board of Trustees. OCC helped prepare me for my educational and professional journey, and I want to ensure that same opportunity remains available and affordable for the next generation. Today’s students are balancing more than classes. They are working jobs, raising families, managing transportation challenges, and navigating financial pressures. They deserve an OCC that understands those realities and gives them the tools and support they need to succeed. I am running to help keep OCC affordable, accessible, workforce-focused, community-connected, and centered on student success. I also want to strengthen partnerships with employers, skilled trades, emerging industries, community organizations, and four-year institutions so every student has a clear pathway toward a good-paying career or continued education. Serving as an OCC Trustee is deeply personal to me. It is my opportunity to give back to the institution that helped shape my journey while helping create opportunities for others. But I cannot continue this work without you. I’m asking you to join our campaign today. Make a contribution, volunteer, share our message, and encourage your family and friends to support my reelection. Together, we can continue building an OCC that creates opportunity for every student. With gratitude, MiVida Burrus Oakland Community College Trustee
